The coat becomes her ultimate fall go-to, inspiring dresses, suiting and cocktail wear. Iconic shapes such as the pea coat and trench coat are renewed in printed shearling, bonded leather and Melton wool with a nod to a 60s military influence. Glen plaid and houndstooth are given a twist in unexpected scales and youthful silhouettes, while quilted suede offers a luxurious new take on the hunting suit. Menswear patterns are reinterpreted in silk dresses with riding and cable knit prints and pleated backs. Heritage colors- Burgundy, Midnight Navy and Caramel- carry throughout, as do penny loafer inspired riding boots. Evening is grounded in classic silhouettes redone with tuxedo and metallic details. The Tommy Hilfiger Fall 2012 men’s collection is inspired by the lifestyle of a young cadet whose uniforms range from military prep to the sporting life, all infused with hints of rock influence. His academy look is sophisticated in its modernity, a touch rebellious but still buttoned up. The hybridization of his pursuits creates a youthful take on classic traditions, reinforcing that functionality and spirit can coexist. For a young cadet, outerwear is key in familiar shapes- a pea coat, an officer’s coat- updated in tailored fits, luxurious fabrics and rich tones such as Burgundy, Midnight Navy and Forest. Military inspired bullion tape becomes the new regimental stripe on wool pants and sportcoats, even on the cadet boot in pewter with metal detailing. For his sporting adventures, the cadet reinvents heritage pieces he co-opted from his family archives. Suiting for every occasion is polished in classic glen plaid and houndstooth, but updated with unexpected leather details and a play on scale.
